| Engine 24 firefighters and Emergency Medical Services personnel rescued two cats from a burning house and revived them using oxygen masks. |
When Washington, D.C., firefighters responded to a blaze on Sept. 6, they realized lives were at stake and readied their oxygen masks to resuscitate the victims, Firehouse.com reports.
Only this wasn’t a typical rescue effort. Those in need of oxygen were two Siamese cats that firefighters found in the house while trying to contain the fire. One was unconscious and barely breathing, the other was discovered semi-conscious with labored breathing.
That’s when the members of Engine 24 began their life-saving efforts. They removed cats from the house, grabbed oxygen masks and with the help of Emergency Medical Services personnel—began oxygen therapy. Within 30 minutes, 3-year-old Nyla and 2-year-old Joe were revived completely and returned to their owners.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no people were injured.
