Shari Allen, the former director of FLOCK (For the Love of Cats and Kittens) in Pahrump, Nev., was arrested and charged last week with 125 counts of animal neglect. The Nye County animal shelter took possession of 125 cats found in Allen’s home and is caring for them at the county shelter.
Volunteers and staff members from Best Friends Animal Society are assisting Nye County shelter officials in caring for the cats. Russ Mead, legal counsel for Best Friends, says the cats show signs of neglect, including upper respiratory conditions, ringworm and malnutrition.
Nye County officials emphasized that Allen’s arrest is separate from the ongoing investigation of conditions at the FLOCK facility in Pahrump. Allen was replaced as director of FLOCK in March of this year.
