The city of Los Angeles is having its first-ever “Spay Day LA” on Feb. 24 to provide free spay and neuter service to dogs and cats — feral and domestic.
Spay Day LA is the culmination of efforts from both public and private organizations, resulting in free altering services at various locations throughout the city that day.
Spay Day LA comes on the heels of a mandatory spay/neuter ordinance that received final approval by the Los Angeles City Council on Feb. 12. Under the new ordinance, all cats and dogs ages four months and older must be altered unless they qualify for certain exemptions, such as those in competition, service animals or animals whose veterinarians deem the procedure medically unsafe.
