Ronald Teague, the man charged with evading arrest and detention with a motor vehicle after leading Dallas police on a high-speed chase last week, had a reputation among local animal shelters as an animal hoarder, reports the McKinney (Texas) Courier-Gazette. When Dallas Animal Services and the SPCA of Texas heard of Teague’s arrest, they visited his home.
The animal shelter professionals found 45 cats and kittens and 11 dogs and puppies in Teague’s home. Teague’s wife voluntarily relinquished the animals to Dallas Animal Services, which transported them to the SPCA of Texas. Authorities also found the carcasses of 29 animals in a freezer.
After leading police on a high-speed chase last week, Teague told officers he was trying to take his sick cat to the veterinarian. Chief Deputy Craig McKnight, a spokesman for the Dallas County Constable’s office, said the cat in the vehicle had likely been dead for at least two days.
