Last October, Best Friends Animal Society and Beirut for the Ethical Treatment of Animals rescued nearly 300 cats and dogs from war-torn Beirut, bringing the animals to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. This weekend, PetSmart will host a special adoption event in Phoenix, Ariz., to help find homes for 50 Lebanese cats and 50 Lebanese dogs still looking for permanent homes.

“We are thrilled to be working with Best Friends,” said Troy Tamer of PetSmart. “This creates a lot of excitement within the community. We’re expecting more traffic than usual. It’s not every day that we get cats and dogs from Lebanon.”

The adoption events will take place Jan. 26 to Jan. 28 at two PetSmart locations in the Phoenix area: the Colonnade PetSmart at 1949 E. Camelback Road, and the Priest & Elliot PetSmart at 315 W. Elliot Road in Tempe. PetSmart is offering special incentives for people who adopt a Lebanese cat or dog. New owners will receive a free bag of cat or dog food and a PetSmart booklet containing $150 of coupons.

“Our goal is to see all of the animals go off to new homes,” Tamer said. “We’ll do whatever we can to make that a reality.”

Adoption event hours are noon to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27 and Sunday, Jan. 28. For more information about the event, call (602) 248-8809 or (480) 961-9710, or visit the Best Friends website.

Why not do this for our own 100000`s of homeless cat and dogs? Why bring in another countries?
