The dark gray cat is Will Buckner’s walking companion every weekday morning, making sure the boy makes it to the bus stop—a short distance from the family’s house—each day. It’s a tradition the cat started with Will’s older brother, Jacob, The Indianapolis Star reports.
The Buckner family rescued Jazz from the Humane Society for Hamilton County (Ind.) about three years ago, according to Laura Buckner, Will’s mom. The cat started his bus stop routine soon after.
Each morning, just before the bus is scheduled to arrive, Jazz wriggles under the cracked garage door. He trots after Will, sometimes weaving through his legs, then stands next to the boy as they wait for the bus. It’s a treat for the other students, as they look for Jazz each morning when they arrive at the stop.
After Will boards the bus, and the bus drives away, Jazz walks back to the house, his duty done for the day.
