Since July, volunteers and staff from Best Friends Animal Society have provided care and medical attention for more than 600 neglected and abused cats at the F.L.O.C.K. facility in Pahrump, Nev. Last weekend, 40 cats from Pahrump found new homes, thanks to an adoption event hosted by Sunset Station casino in Henderson, Nev.

The event took place on October 8. Best Friends placed cages and sun shades on a grassy area outside the casino. The casino’s marquee advertised the event, and radio and TV announcements helped spread the word. By noon, 20 cats were on their way to new homes, and by the end of the day, the number grew to 40. Sunset Station generously sent home a new cat bed with each adopted cat.

Best Friends’ staff members were delighted to place four FIV-positive cats in new homes, as well as several black cats. Two families adopted pairs of cats, and some first-time pet owners welcomed new cats into their families.

One such family was the Ibarras. Brenda, Frank and their two daughters, Sasha and Dolce adopted Hilton, a large Siamese mix — the family’s first pet. “We haven’t had a pet yet,” Brenda said, “But our girls are old enough now to have one. They fell in love with Hilton.”

I am so happy to see so many of the Pahrump cats being adopted. What a horrible existance they had prior to Best Friends coming to their rescue. Now they will have the life they deserve, with a nice family who wants them.
