Cinder, a tortoiseshell senior cat living at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah, celebrated her 22nd birthday this month with a birthday party the shelter staff threw. Though she is blind and afraid of other cats, Cinder seemed to enjoy her celebration.

Shelter staff provided a cat-appropriate birthday cake made of gourmet wet cat food and cat greens, but Cinder seemed to prefer the smell of the peanut butter frosting on the cake served to her human caregivers. Once the off-limits treat had been taken away from her, Cinder turned her attention to her gifts, including a catnip-stuffed toy bear.
Cinder lives in her own room at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary because she is afraid of other cats, but she enjoys plenty of attention from shelter staff. For more information on Best Friends and the cats that live there, visit the group’s website at www.bestfriends.org.
