“Animal Planet Heroes Phoenix” is a reality series featuring the emergency animal medical technicians (EAMTs) of the Arizona Humane Society as they provide life-saving medical care to animals that are abused, injured and sick. The show debuted in January 2006 and is re-airing over the Thanksgiving holiday, Nov. 13-28.
The 15 original episodes followed the Arizona Humane Society’s team of EAMTs as they responded to emergency calls about animals in distress. The specially trained technicians treat domestic cats and dogs, as well as other types of pets and wildlife.
The Arizona Humane Society’s EAMT program is the only one of its kind in the United States. The EAMTs are involved in the investigation and prosecution of animal abuse cases and are some of the first to respond to natural disasters.
