At-Risk Animal Charity Event

Charity Concert for At-Risk Animals Planned

Beastie Boys are among the performers slated for the “Gimme Shelter” event.

Members of the Beastie Boys, Marshall Crenshaw and Nellie McKay are among the artists scheduled to perform in New York City at “Gimme Shelter: Rock & Rescue NYC,” a benefit for homeless animals.

Other performers slated to appear include: The Buzzcocks, Tony Barber, The Dictators with Handsome Dick Manitoba and The Voidoids. Blondie lead singer Debbie Harry is scheduled to make a special appearance as well.

This annual charity concert for at-risk animals was created by Rational Animal, a nonprofit organization that uses media campaigns to promote the welfare of New York’s at-risk animals. The ASPCA will co-host the benefit.

“Gimme Shelter Rock & Rescue NYC is NYC’s way of putting a shout out to everyone to get involved in making NYC ‘no-kill’ a reality within the decade. With currently 50 healthy animals euthanized daily in city shelters due to lack of space and adopters, Gimme Shelter invites everyone to do their part in reaching the goal,” Rational Animal founder Susan Brandt said in a statement.

The event is from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Oct. 4 at the Hiro Ballroom inside the Maritime Hotel in New York City. For more information, visit http://www.gimmeshelterrockandrescuenyc.org.
