Vivienne Westwood, fashion icon and designer for the Sex Pistols, agrees to not use fur in her designs. Vivienne Westwood, known in the fashion world for her punk rock styles and designs for the punk rock band the Sex Pistols, announced this week that she will no longer use any fur in her future clothing lines.

“The most important thing is to avoid cruelty in the use of fur from animals,” Westwood said. “From next season, we will make sure we won’t source fur from China and also that we won’t use rabbit, cat or dog furs.”

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) made the announcement with Westwood this week and commended her for her decision.

“We thank Vivienne Westwood for putting the compassion into fashion,” said Michael Markarian, executive vice president for HSUS. “She is not only a talented and respected leader, but is a legend in the fashion industry. We applaud Vivienne Westwood and the many other leading designers who have decided to go fur-free, recognizing that the animals need their fur much more than we do.”
