Pet loss is never easy, and the resulting grief can deeply affect your life. To help pet owners who are grieving the loss of a pet, the Frederick County Humane Society is offering a pet bereavement counseling session Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. The session will take place at the shelter offices in Frederick, Md., near Route 85.

During the session, pet owners will have a chance to talk with professional counselors in small groups. Counselors will be prepared to discuss the stages of grief and help pet owners talk about the feelings they might experience during the grieving process. Pet owners may participate as much or as little as they wish, based on their comfort level.

In addition, the sessions are open to owners who may be facing difficult decisions regarding their aging or ill pets’ health. For more information about the pet bereavement sessions or for directions to the shelter, visit the Frederick County Humane Society website.

I inherited Oney about 4 years ago after his owner died of ephasema; She use to bring him to our clinic; Oney had a lot of renal problems; She asked me one day if I would be his godmother; I agreed; In 2005 I got a phone call saying that she was dying and would I come and get Oney; I picked him up and the cat would not let me get near him for 1 week then we slowly bonded; He would sleep on a pillow next to me; We would brush our teeth together; Then for the last week He just wasn't himself; I work at a vet clinic took him in and found out he had a kidney tumor and pancreatic tumor: I elected to put him to sleep; He was 15.5 years old and had him for 5 years; I miss him very Much and last night was very hard sleeping without him next to me; He died 8/21/10

I lost my beloved cat because I do not own a car and NOBODY in my subdivision would help me get him to the vet(less then 2 miles away).
