A longhaired beauty climbs a pole, captivating the audience with her skill and charm. Is she a gorgeous young lady? No — she’s a cat, performing in Yuri Kuklachev’s Moscow Cats Theatre, doing a trick she loves.
Cat lovers can catch her act — and that of her feline and human friends — at performances across the United States. Upcoming shows will be held in Atlanta, San Diego, Los Angeles, Chicago and Detroit, among other cities.
How did cats and clowns come together in this unique show? Yuri Kuklachev originally created the act while living in Moscow. His success in the Moscow circus arena prompted him to bring the act to the United States. To create acts featuring cats, Kuklachev focuses on enhancing behaviors the cats already perform on their own. For example, cats that like to climb are encouraged to climb up poles for the act. Cats that enjoy jumping are taught to jump from one platform to another.
