Natural Balance Pet Foods Inc., is recalling two pet foods — Venison & Brown Rice Dry Dog Food and Venison & Green Pea Dry Cat foods — after consumers complained of pets vomiting and experiencing kidney problems.

The animals’ symptoms are similar to those in pets affected by the Menu Foods’ recall last month, but the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which is investigating both recalls, says there is no indication at this time whether this is related to the ongoing pet food recalls.

Neither of the venison diets contain wheat products, according to Natural Balance’s ingredient list.

Although the company believes the problems are limited to one particular lot of food, it is pulling all dates of the affected products from shelves and advising pet owners to stop feeding all Venison and Brown Rice Dry Dog Food and Venison and Green Pea Dry Cat Food that they might have at home.

Pacoima, California-based Natural Balance, which is co-owned by actor Dick Van Patten, also produces organic, raw and allergy formulas of its food as well as zoo diets. None of its other products are affected, the company said.

The FDA’s website includes a full list of recalled products.

If your dog or cat is acting strangely or exhibiting any of the above symptoms, immediately seek advice from your veterinarian.

For Rexanne's info: all those pets foods were made in the United States. Even Menu Foods' plant is in Kansas. Their administrative office is in Canada. I think pet food companies should have routine checks on all the food supplies they buy from other companies to make their pet food.

I wonder if we should stop feeding Natural Balance wet food for cats. My girls eat the chicken and liver flavor. Wow, this is really getting scary.

Great, I just switched over to Natural Balance recently for our 3 cats and our dog, after the other recalls, thinking that a natural, organic food would be safer. Luckily, didn't purchase the particular ones listed in this new recall, but this is getting ridiculous!
