Lynx lynx

The Eurasian lynx is the largest of the lynxes and lives mostly in Siberia and other parts of northern Asia. Their coat is usually plain gray or golden but some may have spots or tabby markings.

They prefer to eat large prey, such as deer, but will hunt smaller animals, such as rabbits and rodents, when their prey of choice is scarce. Eurasian lynxes hunt mainly at night and rest during the day.

Kittens are usually born in May or June, with one to four in a litter. Eurasian lynxes can live more than 20 years in captivity, but in the wild, they can live up to 17 years.

This cat's biggest threat is hunting. The IUCN currently lists the Eurasian lynx as near threatened.
