Geoffroy's Cat
Oncifelis geoffroyi

This small spotted cat weighs about 10 pounds and is found in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay. Geoffroy's cats live in forests, grasslands, scrubs and open wet lands. Although they are excellent climbers and often carry their prey into trees, they spend most of their time on the ground.

Geoffroy's cats have an unusual habit of standing on their hind legs while using their tail to balance. They are mostly nocturnal and eat rodents, frogs and birds. They enjoy the water and are sometimes referred to as "fishing cats" by people who live in their native regions. Hunting is the Geoffroy's cat's biggest threat along with habitat loss. It is the second most hunted cat in the world.
